"They thought they were better, but they weren't."

I'll have more to say about Rivalry Week shortly, but for now, news of an important, if unsurprising, scientific finding:

In a novel study that used historical tape of a thrilling overtime basketball game between Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, brain researchers at Duke have found that fans remember the good things their team did much better than the bad.

. . .

Rubin said the Duke fans and the UNC fans did equally well on the recall test, though the Duke fans tended to answer quicker and tended to be more sure of themselves. "They thought there were better, but they weren't," he said.

Yes, that's right. Science has finally provided support for my longheld claim that the Duke fanbase has the most noxious combination of arrogance and ignorance of any in America.

Hat tip to my co-blogger, who will be joining the March in earnest at the end of the month.
